Further Mathematics AS level at Edgbarrow School

Course description

This is a good choice for able mathematicians with a particular interest in Mathematics.  The course covers core mathematics in much greater depth than the standard A Level course (including complex numbers, matrix algebra and polar co-ordinates).  It also provides students with a thorough knowledge across all three applied areas of mechanics, statistics and decision maths.  It can be taken as part of a three, four or five A Level course and should be of particular interest to students considering studying mathematics at university.

Course content

Further Mathematics is a challenging subject, requiring a willingness to work independently.  Homework is set after each lesson.  This work is an integral part of the course and gives practice in the application of theory, tests understanding, allows time for background reading, and for learning necessary facts and formulae.  Regular assessment of written work gives students valuable feedback on methods, presentation and progress.

In addition to the revision sessions provided at school, Further Mathematics students have the opportunity to attend sessions offered by the Berkshire Further Maths Network both online and at various local centres.
