Caring for Children Diploma Level 1 at The Manchester College
Course description
As an introduction into caring for children, this Level 1 diploma is ideal for anyone considering a future career in this area. You’ll develop an underpinning knowledge of the skills needed to care for young children effectively, and lay the foundations for further study and a rewarding job in childcare. You’ll focus on practical health and safety aspects when working with children, and learn the importance of safeguarding young people’s welfare. You’ll also being to understand how children grow and develop as they get older, looking at how to respect and value their actions. Although you don’t need to be working or be on a practical placement - as this course is just focused on developing your knowledge, you’ll still be exploring a variety of craft activities for children and understanding how play can be focused on early learning. Healthy living will also be touched upon, and you’ll discover how to effectively share learning experiences with young people.
Entry requirements
You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to enrol on this course. We will invite you down for an informal interview, where you will also complete a short initial assessment.
Assessment
Each of the units on this Level 1 Diploma will be assessed by your tutor, using a range of methods that could include written coursework, designing charts and leaflets, or oral questioning.

Future opportunities
Once you’ve completed this CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children, you’ll be able to progress onto a number of Level 2 courses here at The Manchester College, including a certificate in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People or a certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care. As you develop your knowledge and skills on these courses, you’ll be taking the next steps towards a number of rewarding careers in the childcare industry, Link to Careers or Link to Careers 2 including working as an Early Years Educator, a nanny, a childminder, or a practitioner in a nursery.
