Art & Design (Fine Art) A Level at Strode's College

Course description

This is an exciting and practical course aimed to help expand and develop your visual language skills by working in processes such as drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, Mixed Media and 3D Sculpture. In the first year the emphasis is on skills enhancement with further experimentation in techniques unfamiliar to you. You have the opportunity to research the work of historical and contemporary artists from a range of cultures and visiting galleries and exhibitions. In the second year you will work more independently, refining your skills and techniques in the media of your choice.

Entry requirements

Grade C in Art and Design GCSE or a Merit in Level 2 Art BTEC or equivalent plus a portfolio. Students will need to buy workbooks and a starter kit of materials.

Assessment

Coursework units are worth 60% and externally set assignment with practical timed exams are worth 40%.

Financial information

Visits to Art Exhibitions, Artist led workshops in Life drawing, College Art and Design Exhibition.

Future opportunities

This course helps students to prepare a portfolio for work in the Creative Industries, or for entry on to an Art Foundation or Degree course at University.
