Graphic Design Level 3 Diploma at Bath College

Course description

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fast-moving and dynamic world of graphic design, with emphasis on creative thinking, developing skills and ideas. On completion of the first year, you can progress to the extended diploma programme in year two which will prepare you for progression into higher education or the design industry.

Course content

Units include:

  • • Digital design (including Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash)
  • • Typography
  • • Illustration
  • • Information graphics
  • • Packaging design
  • • Contextual studies (current and historical issues in art and design, professional practice)



Students will also undertake an additional specialist short course in photography to further creative development.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs, including English language at grade C or above, or a UAL Level 2 Diploma at merit level overall (with merits in all core units), or equivalent

All students will be required to present a recently completed portfolio of art and design/graphic based work at interview.


Studio and workshop activities, tutorials and portfolio reviews. Optional study visits are arranged throughout the course – recent destinations have included New York, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Florence and Venice. Every year students stage a public exhibition.

Future opportunities

Progression on to undergraduate courses such as graphic design, advertising, animation, and multimedia, and into careers including graphic design, animation, media graphics and web design.
