Women's Hairdressing - C&G Level 2 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

This qualification is intended to provide an understanding of the sector and the vocational skills and knowledge required for Level 2 Hairdressing/Barbering. Skills will be developed during real work activities in the salon environment. It will also provide an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the sector and will enable candidates to make informed decisions about careers in the sector.

Course content

Eleven units will need to completed for a full ladies Level 2 Units:

Working in the hair industry

Health and safety

Consultation

Shampoo and condition

Promoting products and services
Cutting women’s hair

Dressing hair

Colour and lighten hair

Perming

Salon reception duties

 

Entry requirements

Candidates will need to have achieved a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing or barbering together with the necessary personal qualities required by the hair and beauty industry. All applicants will be interviewed and cover an initial assessment in an industry related task. The required literacy and numeracy skills are Entry 3 or working towards a level 1. Learners under 19 years of age will need to complete functional skills or GCSE depending on qualifications already achieved.

Assessment

There will be a combination of theory, covering the underpinning knowledge required, and training in the required skills to underpin practical competence. Candidates are required to complete practical assessments which are graded at pass, credit or distinction. Functional skills are required and are an essential part of this qualification.
Candidates will work salon industrial sessions on clients, models and model heads to practice competency regarding assessment criterial.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the course you will have an awareness of the skills and requirements needed in Hairdressing.

Further information

Candidates who successfully achieve this qualification and are in employment or who have access to work placements could progress to a Level 3 NVQ in Hairdressing.
