Photography AS and A2 at Broughton Hall High School
Photography is a practical subject that teaches an understanding of how to compose an image, the use of a camera to create a visual representation of a topic along with the skills to evaluate and appreciate design. This course will also develop skills in ICT, written analysis and digital manipulation.
Students will follow the AQA specification that consists of the following two components.
Component one - portfolio 60%
Component two - externally set assignment 40%
Component one – personal investigation, to include a 3000 word essay 60%, Component two - externally set assignment 40%
The course is open to pupils who have studied G.C.S.E Photography, Art or one of the Technology subjects. You should have an interest in Photography and be confident when using ICT, as this is integral to the course.
In the portfolio of coursework you will experiment, be creative and develop your skills. Your portfolio will include a range of photographic techniques and one project centred on a theme. There will also be an externally set assignment. This is similar to the coursework portfolio, however the themes are suggested by the exam board. It begins in January and will be completed by April. Within this time frame you will spend 10 hours on a final piece over 2 days for AS Level and 15 hours, over 3 days for A Level.
