Mathematics OCR Advanced GCE at Chiswick School
A Level Maths is a rigorous and intellectually rewarding course that is also highly valued by universities and employers. In Years 12 and 13 you will study Pure Mathematics covering topics such as algebra, functions, proof, geometry, calculus, exponentials and logarithms, and two areas of Applied Mathematics: Statistics and Mechanics. Statistics covers sampling, presentation and representation of data, probablility, distributions and hypothesis testing. Mechanics covers the motion of objects and how they respond to forces acting on them. There is some overlap with Physics A Level.
5 A*-C grades including grade 7 in Maths and 4 or 5 in English Language if part of a Mixed Pathway or 8 A*-C including grade 7 in Maths and grade 4 or 5 in English Language if part of a A Level Pathway. B grade or grade 6 in the A level chosen to study.
Mathematics skills are at the centre of the information revolution and mathematics is used as a tool in many fields such as natural sciences, engineering, medicine and social services. Maths A-level is excellent for most university courses and opens doors in virtually all professions.
