Units studied include: Health and wellbeing, legislation, frameworks and professional practice, play, development and learning for school readiness and professional development. The themes are split into 23 units, including longitudinal studies of child development.
These are dependent on the sector and the criteria of some employers, but they are normally:
Apprentice Level 2: A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A* – E including English Language and mathematics.
Advanced Apprentice Level 3: An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent Early Years qualification or experience and GCSE English Language and mathematics grades A*- C.
Higher Level Apprenticeship Level 4: These are available in some subject areas; but in all instances you will need to be already qualified to Level 3.
The apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and examination in ICT, English and maths.
Once the apprenticeship has finished there is the opportunity to keep on working with your Level 3 qualification, maybe get promoted or go on to higher education. Here at Furness College you can continue your studies by applying for the Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and Their Services.
