Our practical engineering programme is designed to teach you the hands-on skills that are needed to work in the local, national and international engineering industry.
Engineers shape the world; from developing new mobile phone technology to designing buildings and making components for aircraft, the career opportunities are endless.
Our course is very practical and involves using industry standardmachines and software in our specially designed Centre for Engineering, allowing you go into employment with all the skills and technical knowledge employers are looking for. You will learn about what engineering is, how engineers shape the world and the scientific principles that all engineers need to know so that they can do they can do their job.
You will spend the majority of your time in specially equipped workshops covering subjects such as:
Bench Fitting – this involves interpreting darwings and then using hand tools to mark out materials and fabricate products. Turning Techniques – Using our lathes, you will learn how to make products using a variety of turning techniques.
Milling Techniques – You will use our milling machines to mark out and fabricate products. We have both manual and CNC mills so you can learn the skills needed.
Our course offers you the chance to develop practical skills and progress on to employment or an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering.
This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.
4 Ds or 3s or above including English at 3 and maths at 4 or a relevant full level 1.
You will learn through practical sessions in our new, state-of-the-art Engineering Centre. Assessment will be through written work and practical assessments.

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

On successful completion, you will be able to go on to an intermediate apprenticeship or into employment. Local employers such as Dover Harbour Board, Megger, London Fancy Box and Sharpak need skilled machinists and our course will give you the skills that these, and other employers, are looking for.
