Nail Services Advanced Apprenticeship at Darlington College

Course description

This apprenticeship leads to a specialist vocationally related qualification which will enable learners to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required in order to perform advanced techniques in nail technology such as the application and maintenance of acrylic, UV gel and fiberglass nail systems. You will also learn advanced techniques in Nail art such as embedding, embellishing and 3D designs. Airbrush techniques will also form part of this qualification. Learners will be able to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding in order to perform professional nail treatments for clients, and provide advanced skills to enable learners to gain employment in the nail service industry.

To develop your employability opportunities there is the option to attend enrichment classes, for example: Spray Tan Courses, Lash extension Courses, Advanced Courses. These may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

Course content

As part of your apprenticeship you will study the following units:

  • G22 Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • H32 Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
  • N6 Enhance and maintain nails using UV gel
  • N7 Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder
  • N8 Enhance and maintain nails using wraps
  • N9 Plan and create nail art designs
  • N11 Airbrush designs for nails

Entry requirements

You will need GCSE grades A-C in maths and English. It would also be desirable to have completed a previous Level 2 qualification in beauty. A keen interest in the subject is essential. We will request a college report and you will need to attend an interview at the college, which will include a trade test and an entry assignment.

You must be fully committed to study at home.

Assessment

The awarding body is VTCT. You will be assessed on a continual basis for written and practical work. At the end of the apprenticeship you will need to submit a portfolio of evidence which you will be shown how to complete. Written tests will also be completed and a pass mark of 100% is to be achieved.

Future opportunities

On completion of your apprenticeship you may enter any of our related areas such as beauty, complementary therapies or hairdressing to allow you to gain more skills to add to your employment portfolio. Employment opportunities could include working as a nail technician, or you could also work in beauty salons, health spas or set up your own business. Maybe you dream of travelling?
