Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Diploma Construction (QCF) at Kirklees Construction Skills Academy (KCSA)

Course description

This is a Level One course . The course aims to provide basic training in construction skills for anyone looking to start work in the industry or go on to further training. It is suitable for people who have no previous experience or knowledge of construction skills.

It will be delivered over a half day 3 hours either 9-12 or 1-4

Course content

Learners will complete units in Building, Plastering, Painting & Decorating and Electrical. Giving them the chance to gain a sound knowledge of the basics. The course will also give the learner experience of working as part of a team and as an individual. We also cover Health & Safety, Manual Handling, COSHH and PASMA (tower scaffolding) as well as the basics of site safety.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements but a sound interest in construction and a commitment to the subject is advantageous. Punctuality and good attendance are essential - poor attendance would mean tha the learner would not have enough knowledge to complete the practical assessments.

Assessment

The course is assessment and portfolio based. The assessments will take the form of the learner performing a practical task in a set time, the tutor will assess the learner by questioning, observation, photographic evidence and then complete their assessment in writing. The learner will build a portfolio the will eventually include 8 completed units.

Future opportunities

This course offers an excellent oppertunity to gain the experience and working knowledge required to move into a trade in the form of work, an apprenticeshipe with an employer or future training.

Further information

Learners are in a similar environment to working on site and therefore expected to behave appropriately and follow safety rules. Full PPE (personal protective equipment) is provided when necessary. Learners can wear  their own PPE if they prefer but this must meet safety requirements.
