Sport (BTEC First Certificate) offered as part of a full time Level 3 programme (optional V.A.L.P. component) at Sandown Bay Academy

Course description

It is equivalent to two GCSE's Grades A-C. Ideally taken as a full time course but offered as a double option here. All units are assessed through assignment coursework and ongoing tests but there is no exam. You will study subjects such as 'The Sports Industry', 'The body in Sport' and 'Health, Safety and Injury' plus others. It is not an easy option requiring at least 10 pieces of coursework per year.

Entry requirements

A strong commitment to sport and school life with at least 90% level of school attendance proved. Comprehensive assignment work requires satisfactory levels of numeracy and literacy.

Future opportunities

This short course offers you a specialist qualification for working in areas of sport. It could lead onto other vocational qualifications such as a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences or an NVQ as part of an Apprenticeship programme relating to Sport Management, Instructing Fitness and Exercise or Leisure Management. With further training, you could go into a job related to sport such as a Fitness Coach or Leisure Centre Manager. Depending on your other qualifications, you could also progress onto a teacher training course. The course also provides you with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills that many employers are looking for, especially in areas of sport and exercise.
