Mathematical exploration
Internal assessment in Mathematics SL is an individual exploration. This is a piece of written work that involves investigating an area of Mathematics.
 
All the topics in Mathematics (SL) are studied to a greater depth plus a topic from one of two groups; (i) statistics and probability, (ii) discrete mathematics.

 

Assessment

Assessment is by two examinations at the end of the course for either SL course and three examinations for HL, all worth a total of 80 % and the project or mathematical exploration worth 20%.

Mathematics trains students to read, interpret and solve problems using appropriate methods and to formulate and communicate clear arguments. Mathematics is used throughout the world in many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine and the social sciences such as economics.
