Level 2 GCSE Hospitality (Double Award) at Queen Elizabeth's Academy
WJEC Catering is a unique opportunity within KS5 to develop our young people’s knowledge of the hospitality and catering industry. It will also extend their skills, encourage independent thinking and creativity.
This award concentrates on the main areas of food production and service, looking at topics such as accommodation, types of products and customers, front of house, equipment used etc.
It offers students an introduction and provides progression into future learning, training and employment.
Catering enables our young people to enjoy and follow a broad, worthwhile course of study. It will also help them to make informed decisions about their future learning opportunities and career choices. It gives a good grounding for Advanced Level GCE, Diplomas, NVQs, Modern Apprenticeships and employment.
Single Award in Hospitality - equal to 1 GSCE – comprises of:
Unit 3 - Hospitality skills related to events and functions - Event Based Task 120 marks (120 UMS) - One event based task taken from a list of WJEC set tasks. Internally assessed using WJEC set criteria and externally moderated. 45 hours in total. 60% of total marks
Unit 4 - Hospitality and the customer Written Paper 1 ¼ hours 80 marks (80 UMS) - One paper which will be externally set and marked. All questions compulsory and targeted at the full range of GCSE grades. The paper will contain short-answer, structured and free response questions drawn from the hospitality content.40% of total marks.
