Apprenticeship - NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service at County Training - Shropshire Council
Courses in this industry provide the chance to access employment in a range of different settings. Hospitality and Catering is one of the largest industries in the UK so there are lots of career opportunities in a range of different roles. It covers work in a settings that include; restaurants, hotels, cafe’s, pubs, contract caterers and even canteens for large businesses, hospitals and schools.
Due to the many career options available, this course offers several different pathways. The pathway you take will depend on your interests and personal qualities.
This course is a work-based qualification, so you will be learning through on-the-job practical training, providing you with the relevant skills and experience in order to continually progress your career.
The Level 2 qualification is for those who are new to working in Hospitality and Catering, with no or very little skills and experience.
The Food and Beverage Service Diploma is for those who want to work "front of house" in the hospitality Industry.
Food and Beverage Service Intermediate Apprenticeship:
Candidates will work towards achieving the following:
- Level 2 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service
- Level 2 Technical Certificate in Principles of Hospitality and Catering
- Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
Before you can start this course, you will need to have a relevant paid work placement of at least 30 hours per week. There may be existing placements available or County Training can provide you with support to find a placement. This may be through an interview, some support with writing applications or preparing a CV, or even through work-experience placements.
Before your course starts you will meet with your manager at work and your assessor to discuss which units of the qualification you will be working towards. These will be based on the kind of job role and day-to-day tasks you will be doing. Your assessor will then visit you on a regular basis to help collect evidence of the skills and knowledge you are gaining through one-to-one discussions, observations at work and witness testimonies from your manager – all of these activities will help you to build a portfolio demonstrating your ability for this area of work.
For 16-18 year olds undertaking an Apprenticeship, training will be fully funded. A contribution of £250/ £350 may be required for individuals aged 19 and over depending on existing qualifications held.
After completing the intermediate Apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship along with a role which is more challenging and demanding. It is likely at this level that you would be in a supervisory position or have much greater responsibilities at work. You could undertake team leading or management qualifications to assist your development.
