Media Studies A Level at The Studio at Knutsford Academy

Course description

This is the additional professional qualification which is unique to the Studio offer.  Normally you will only be able to access this qualification in the workplace, therefore presenting you with a real opportunity to enhance your CV and develop a competitive edge in the employment market.

If you opt to follow the Broadcast Media Dual Learning Line you will study towards:

  • Adobe Premiere or Adobe After Effects (depending on previous editing experience)

You will complete a range of exciting practical production work and complete projects on areas such as Preproduction Techniques for the Creative Media Industries, Understanding the Film and Television Industries and Single and Multi Camera Techniques. These projects will be co-constructed with a range of our external business partners such as Futureworks, Key 103 and The Sport Business so you will gain a real understanding of what it is like to work in the professional environment of broadcast media.

Assessment will be based on professional standard moving image production portfolio work and the responses to commission briefs and evaluations to the standards required in industry.


As part of these qualifications you will follow a project based learning style programme.  You will fully plan a music video production, focussing on the key skills of constructing a narrative and the planning and evaluation of the effect of mise en scene choices, You will then film your productions using a range of locations and edit your final productions using Adobe Premiere.  Here you will practically apply the knowledge you have gained in the study of your ISQ.  You will also complete a range of promotional materials for your artist such as professional standard designs for gig posters and CD artwork, writing industry style press releases and promoting the artist using a range of social networking tools.  The project will have regular critique points to offer constructive feedback and a strong emphasis will be on your ability to project mange your time effectively to meet deadlines, as required when working in the broadcast media industry.  You will also work with key employer partners such as Key 103 and Futureworks to gain more valuable feedback and direction.
