Course description

Logistics is about moving and storing things (including people) around the UK and the rest of the world. Look around you – virtually EVERYTHING you see has been handled by the logistics industry whether it’s the chair you are sitting on; the clothes you are wearing or the food you ate for breakfast today – it has all been moved it at some point.Think about the last music festival you went to, how did the food, drinks, stage, toilets and even the artists get there? All by the Logistics industry!Logistics is not just trucks, it includes trains, buses, aeroplanes, ships and warehousing. It is a diverse and exciting industry which rewards people who can work in a fast paced environment.You will may have heard of companies such as UPS, Eddie Stobart, TNT, Royal Mail and DHL but there are 196,000 logistics companies operating in the UK alone, it is an industry which employs 1 in 12 people!As part of the level 2 programme if you will complete your theory driving test and hazard perception test and if you progress onto a level 3 programme you will complete your practical driving test with us (subject to eligibility).• Customer servicing & Marketing• Freight Transport Services• Warehousing and Inventory• PurchasingThe course includes visits to some of the largest logistics hubs in the UK which will give you an overview of the logistics industry

Entry requirements

• An interest in working in one of the most rewarding industries in the UK• We will ask you to pass some basic English and maths tests at interview before offering you a place on the course

Assessment

• Your study will involve classroom sessions and practical sessions in a simulated working environment• You will also visit some of the largest logistics hubs in the UK

    • Wythenshawe Campus was opened in 2010 and offers a wide range of courses for school leavers and adults, including construction and motor vehicle. The campus is built to be environmentally friendly and has innovative technology to save energy and re-use resources. These include solar panels, wind catchers for natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting tanks.

      Facilities at Wythenshawe Campus include:

      Local area

      Wythenshawe is a suburb of south Manchester. Wythenshawe Campus is built in the centre of the community, 15 minutes’ walk from the civic centre. The campus has it own gardens and places to sit outside, while Wythenshawe itself has several large parks and woodlands. The civic centre has a supermarket, shops, post office and fast food chains and there are some smaller shops opposite the campus. The campus is just over two miles from Wythenshawe Park; a beautiful green space with community farm and historic buildings.
