Religious Studies *FEES PAYABLE* at Canford School

Course description

Focused on debate, discussion and engagement with complex ideas, the
A Level course offered by the Philosophy and RS department at Canford
is a fantastic introduction to the worlds of Philosophy and Theology.
Hugely engaging and intellectually stimulating, in the AS year alone pupils
tackle issues as varied as whether happiness should be the ultimate goal
in life, the idea of quantum reality, the morality of abortion, and whether
the idea of a miracle-working God is a reasonable one, to name just a
few.
The academic depth and breadth of staff within the department enables
pupils to select from a range of options for the Upper Sixth. In the past,
modules studied have been as varied as an examination of religious
fundamentalism in Islam and Christianity, an analysis of the ethics of the
business world, the study of a gospel or the exploration of differing
conceptions of God.

Entry requirements

A lack of experience in RS at GCSE should not put off bright pupils.
Despite not offering the full GCSE in previous years, the department’s
performance has been regularly amongst the highest in the school. Every
pupil from the past two years has achieved an A grade at AS, and 75%
an A* or A at A level.
