In Year 12 students will complete the following core unit:
Unit 38: Dance Performance
In Year 12, students will complete 2 specialist units from the following list: Jazz Dance, Developing Contemporary Dance Technique, Choreographic Principals, Choreograping, Dance, Dance Technique
In Year 13 students will complete the following core unit:
Unit 7: Performing to an Audience
In Year 13, students will complete 2 specialist units from the following list: Jazz Dance, Developing Contemporary Dance Technique, Choreographic Principals, Choreograping, Dance, Dance Technique
As this course is 100% coursework, you will need to be well organised and able to meet deadlines. You need to be prepared to work closely with your teachers to improve the standard of your work. As a dance student you will need to be versatile and flexible in your approach to performance. The demands of the course are such that you will need an energised and committed approach to developing both your practical skills and academic appreciation of dance. It is a vibrant course that offers exciting performance opportunities as an integral aspect of your learning.
BTEC qualifications are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges). Students going straight into employment could work in performance support, dance performance, choreography, community dance practitioner, dance project co-ordinator/administrator.
Students going on to universities or colleges can take vocational dance courses such as contemporary dance, musical theatre, professional dance performance, dance education. Degrees at university include dance performance, dance and culture, performance arts (dance), dance and exercise science.
Other options include taking a combined honours course, for example, dance and English or dance and photography
