Information and Communication Technology A Level at St Hilda's Church of England High School

Course description

The qualification has been designed to enable students to gain an understanding of the application of Information and Communication Technology. Students will acquire essential skills and knowledge in order to develop career opportunities in the information and communication technology industry, as well as enabling entry to Further of Higher Education programmes.

Course content

Unit 1: The Information Age
Unit 2: The Digital Economy
Unit 3: The Knowledge Worker

Unit 7: Using Database Software
Unit 8: Managing ICT Projects
Unit 11: Using Spreadsheet Software

Entry requirements

Grade C, ICT GCSE would be an advantage though not essential


The coursework units (1, 2, 8 and 11) are marked in-house and sent to the examination board for moderation. Units 3 and 7 are examined units which are sent to the examination board for marking.

Future opportunities

Students with qualifications in ICT are much sought after. Whether students intend to enter Higher Education or industry, the skills acquired, (ICT and problem solving), will be of great benefit to students. Not all students, of course, will work in the ICT industry as such, but whatever the career choice ICT will be encountered in some form. Students with an AS or A level qualification in Applied ICT will have a great advantage over their colleagues.
