Digital Media Cambridge Technical Level 3 at Feversham College

Course description

Cambridge Technical in Digital Media will give learners an understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products that appeal to specific target audiences; learners will gain knowledge and understanding of the production processes and create a media product. Through this learners will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and leadership. The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical in Digital Media teaches students knowledge skills and understanding through a range of units which cover criteria such as: Media products and audiences; Creating a media product; Computer Graphics, Pre-production and planning; Advertising; Computer gaming; Social media.

The following qualifications are offered:

  • OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Certificate in Digital Media—equivalent to an AS level (which is studied over 1 year)
  • OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Digital Media – equivalent to an A level (which is studied over 2 years)

Course content

The OCR Cambridge Technical in Digital Media has been developed to recognise candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding of the I.T. and Digital Media sector and the settings, job roles, principles and values involved. Students will complete a range of units from those provided by OCR. There will be key mandatory units and optional units which will be covered throughout the course. The units will carry a weighting of credits and will add up as you complete the Certificate units or the Extended Certificate qualification respectively.

Some of the level 3 units include content such as:

  • Designing media products
  • Making digital media products using software such as that from the Serif Design Suite
  • Legal and Ethical issues

Entry requirements

The GCSE profile of students following the vocational pathway is 5 A*- C including English.

Assessment

Cambridge Technical Certificate in Digital Media is a one year course. This is equivalent to one AS level in terms of size and includes three units:

  • 1x unit with 1 exam (externally assessed)
  • 1x unit (centre assessed)
  • 1x unit (centre assessed and moderated by OCR)

Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Digital Media is a two year course. This is equivalent to on A level in terms of size and includes the following:

  • 2x units with 2 exams (externally assessed)
  • 1x unit (centre assessed and moderated by OCR)
  • 2x units (centre assessed)
