Art & Design (Fine Art) A-Level at Churchill Academy and Sixth Form

Course description

Fine Art at A Level builds on the foundations laid in GCSE. Those who enjoy working in a practical and creative way will revel in the opportunity to express their ideas. Using a variety of methods and materials they will experiment visually and extend their skills, developing personal projects that respond to a range of themes. The whole course trains you to be a problem solver which is desired in all professions.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C at GCSE C grade in GCSE Art

(B grade in GCSE Art is desirable)

  • Problem solving / investigative

Assessment

Year 12

Coursework unit based on a given theme, made up of developmental work and final pieces. Exam unit, externally set broad based theme. Development of ideas in portfolio/ sketchbook leading to 10 hour practical exam.

Year 13 

Coursework unit based on given theme, made up of developmental work and final pieces. Essay (1000 words) continuous prose based on area of study. Exam unit, externally set broad based theme. Development of ideas in portfolio/ sketchbook leading to 15 hour practical exam
