Business Studies - AS at Wallington County Grammar School

Course description

AS Business Studies aims to develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value. It will involve consideration of the internal workings and management of organisations and the process of decision-making in an ever changing world. The course promotes active, rather than passive, learning with an emphasis on a problem solving approach. It is important to have an interest in current affairs. Students will be expected to read the Business section of a quality newspaper, as much of the material will be studied through a variety of real business contexts.

Entry requirements

It is not necessary to have studied Business Studies at GCSE in order to take it at AS or A2 Level.

Future opportunities

Business Studies students have access to a wide range of career opportunities, as a range of personal transferable skills will be developed, including: interpreting and analysing data; applying knowledge to unfamiliar situations; developing and presenting arguments; and challenging assumptions. These skills are in great demand and are recognised by employers as being of great value.AS Business Studies students have access to a wide range of higher education opportunities, as it combines well with Social Sciences, Science, Mathematics and Humanities subjects to lead to degree courses in e.g. Law, Economics, Accounting, Politics, International Relations and, of course, Business Management.
