GSCE Mathematics at Acland Burghley School

Course description

Mathematics GCSE is a compulsory subject for all students. Nearly all employers and educational institutions require a qualification in mathematics for employment or further study. Course content: • Using & Applying Mathematics • Number • Algebra • Shape and Space • Data Handling What skills will I develop? • Working logically • Problem solving • Finding patterns and rules to describe results • Processing and interpreting data • Manipulating algebra • Geometrical reasoning • Confidence with numbers and using maths in real life situations How will I be assessed? 2 examination papers at the end of Year 11, Paper 1 = non-calculator (50%), Paper 2 = calculator (50%) For able mathematicians there is also the possibility to be entered for the additional GCSE in statistics Head of Department: Ms Randall
