Geography (A Level) AQA at The Robert Napier School
The current Geography Course is subject to change pending publication of the new specification.
Unit 1 - GEOG 1 Physical and Human Geography 70% of AS, 35% of A level, 2 hour written examination, 120 marks, Structured short and extended questions.
Unit 2 - GEOG 2 Geographical Skills 30% of AS, 15% of A level, 1 hour written examination. 50 marks. Structured skills and generic fieldwork questions.
Unit 3 - GEOG 3 Contemporary Geographical Issues 30% of A level, 2 hours 30 minutes written examination, 90 marks, Structured short and extended questions, plus an essay.
Unit 4 - either GEO4A Geography Fieldwork Investigation or GEO4B Geographical Issues Evaluation 20% of A level, 1 hour 30 minutes written examination, 60 marks.
GEO4A - structured short and extended questions based on candidates fieldwork investigation and fieldwork skills.
GEO4B - structured short and extended questions based on an Advance Information booklet, released on 22 March.
C or above at GCSE level
AS Geog 1 and Geog 2 exams in June of year 12
A2 Geog 3 and Geog 4A or 4B in June of year 13
The course provides a good foundation for the study of geography or related courses in higher education. Equally it is suitable if you are intending to pursue a geography-based career or a career in business, various social sciences and sciences, or as part of a course of general education.
