Business BTEC Extended Certificate - Level 2 at Dudley College

Course description

The BTEC Extended Certificate in Business has been developed to meet the needs of learners with a range of educational requirements. This could include learners who wish to add breadth to their knowledge and understanding of Business as part of their career progression and development.  

Course content

You will learn about the theory of business in units such as business purposes, business organisations/business online/financial forecasting and promoting and branding. These units aim to help you understand the types of business, the differences between them and then how to finance a business and create basic accounts along with how to promote and brand a product in the most effective way.

There is a huge variety of units available for you to take part in that will help you to develop your understanding of business.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at grade D and grade 3 in English or Mathematics


A variety of methods are used to assess learning throughout the course and they are as follows:

• Externally examined units
• Formal business reports
• Formal business presentations
• Professional skill role-play activities
• In-class assessments – formal and informal.

All are graded on a pass/merit/distinction basis and each accrue a different value of points.

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund



Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. More information about the 16-18 Bursary Fund can be found at the website: or by contacting our Student Finance team on 01384 363 555.




We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.


*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.


**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.


***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

You may progress onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in Business Level 3 or any other Level 3 programme, providing you meet the entry criteria to the course.
