Applied Science BTEC Level 3 National Certificate at Strode's College

Course description

This course opens up a range of career opportunities in the science industry as well as entry on to both science and non-science degree courses. It is a nationally recognised qualification that is valued by both employers and admission officers in higher education. The course appeals to students wanting an alternative to assessment through written exams as it is largely assignment based.

Course content

This is an ideal course to develop your understanding of scientific concepts such as cell biology, forensic techniques, medical physics and analytical chemistry, as well as understanding how the science industry works. You will also develop your lab skills through an extensive range of practical activities.

Entry requirements

Grade C in Maths GCSE and either grade C in Double Science GCSE or a Merit in Level 2 Science BTEC/OCR or equivalent.


Largely coursework, (including practical work) that is often carried out under controlled conditions in class, and one examined unit.

Financial information

Forensic Science Investigation day, Laboratory site visits, Traffic Accident Investigation visit to a fire station, External speakers

Future opportunities

This course equips students with the skills, scientific knowledge and understanding required for progression to Higher Education or to gain employment.
