BTEC Health and Social Care Level 3 at Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College

Course description

The course comprises of 120 credits to be studied over the two years. Students will complete work experience as a full unit over the 2years.

Successful completion of this course will give students the equivalent of 2 A level grades.

The course provides the grades and good grounding for students to progress on to Health & Social Care programmes and other related subjects at University.

Course content

Students will complete the 60 credits as detailed below:

Year 1 – 60 Credits

Unit 1: Developing Effective Communication in Health and Social Care

Unit 2: Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care

Unit 4: Development Through the Life Stages

Unit 6: Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care

Unit 7: Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care

Unit 22: Research Methodology for Health and Social care

Unit 25: Coping with Change in a Health and Social Care Context

 

Year 2 – 60 Credits

Unit 3: Health, safety and Security in Health and Social Care

Unit 5: Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social care

Unit 6: Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care

Unit 8: Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social care

Unit 14: Physiological Disorders

Unit 20: Promoting Health Education

Unit 27: Dealing with Challenging Behaviour

Assessment

BTEC Nationals are not exam based. Students have to study real – life, work based case studies and complete projects and assignments, which contribute to achieving each unit studied.

Future opportunities

The qualification is designed to be flexible to reflect the individual’s career aspiration. There is an emphasis on employment opportunities, so that students can choose to progress into specific area of work. Career opportunities include physiotherapy, midwifery, radiologist, social work, teaching, nursing, medicine, counselling etc.
