Modern Foreign Languages at The Bramcote College

Course description

There are 4 main topic areas to study:
• Youth culture and concerns
• Lifestyle: health and fitness
• The world around us: travel, tourism, environmental issues and the French/Spanish/German speaking world
• Education and employment

At A2 Level, students will also further study traditions and customs, literature and the arts, national and international events. Students will enhance and improve their grammatical skills and awareness in the foreign language and gain greater knowledge and understanding of the culture and issues of the countries where the language is spoken. The language and skills of debate and argument are also developed


Assessment

AS Level
A speaking assessment of 8-10 minutes worth 30% of the total AS marks (15% of total A2 marks) to be taken in January or May.
A listening, reading and writing paper worth 70% of the total AS marks (35% of total A2 marks) to be taken in January or June.

A2 Level A speaking assessment debate of 11-13 minutes worth 35% of the total A2 marks and 17.5% of the total to be taken in January or May.
A reading and writing paper including research and translation worth 65% of the total A2 marks and 32.5% of the total qualification to be taken in January or May

Entry requirements

5 x A*- C grades at GCSE.
