Brickwork Level 1 Diploma at The City of Liverpool College

Course description

The level 1 programme is a great way to start your career. It enables you to develop the skills and confidence to progress in college and into work. You will develop a wide range of skills in your chosen subject area as well as gaining qualifications in English, maths and ICT. You will be assessed for your English and maths and work at the level that’s right for you.

Working with the harder materials, such as brick and stone, can be very creative and means that work which is created will be admired for years to come. Bricklayers also use a variety of specialist tools to spread and joint mortar and cut bricks or blocks to size. As a bricklayer you'll need a good head for heights and be happy to work outdoors. Bricklaying can also be quite physical, so good fitness is important. You'll also need to be precise, accurate and be able to follow instructions. This level 1 course is suitable for students who are not employed within the construction industry and have no previous experience.

You will have a personal tutor and a weekly tutorial

Entry requirements

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in Brickwork but you will need to show that you have an interest in the area. You will need to be at Entry 3 or above in English/ESOL and maths (GCSE grades F and G)

Financial information

All students are required to wear appropriate protective equipment in the workshops, including safety boots and overalls. Students may be able to purchase these through the college at a reduced cost.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may be able to progress onto Level 2 courses like:

• CSKILLS Award Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork

• CSKILLS NVQ Brickwork (if employed as a bricklayer)

    • Technical and Enterprise courses are located in this modern, purpose built facility that includes fully equipped workshops and laboratories for a number of trades such as dental technology, furniture making, bricklaying, painting and decorating, joinery, plastering, plumbing, electrical/gas installation and heating and ventilation workshops.

      The campus also houses motor vehicle repair workshops and an industry standard paint spraying booth.

      The college has invested £250,000 in environmental technologies facilities which include workshops housing the latest low carbon equipment and a full size ‘green’ home on which to demonstrate and deliver the latest green technologies skills training.
