Course description

The specialist department of Computing and Digital Technologies delivers courses to students looking to obtain vocationally relevant qualifications to suit the local dynamic job market and support those looking to progress to Further Education or Apprenticeships.

Course content

This course will widen your understanding of how IT is used effectively in business and will provide you with the technical background to support further study in IT or technical subjects, enter employment or take up an Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above, including GCSE Maths and English. Equivalent qualifications in a relevant discipline will be accepted with GCSE Maths and English at grade D or above.

You will also be required to attend an interview, during which you will take an initial assessment in English and Maths.

Assessment

The Level 2 in IT is a coursework based qualification with no exams. The full award and units from this qualification are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The Functional Skills or GCSE component is assessed by an exam or on-line exam and you will be given guidance and support to achieve this.

Future opportunities

This qualification is designed to allow progression to entry level employment or to enable progression to Further Education courses or an Advanced Apprenticeship.
