Music BTEC Diploma Level 2 at Hugh Baird College
You will study a mixture of units designed to give you an insight into the many different areas of the music industry. You will produce recordings and original music using the studio and music software as well as exploring the business aspects and history of music.
This course is designed to help you find your specialism within the music industry and to guide you towards the next step of your music education. You might be a performer, electronic musician, producer or composer. This course course will enable you to learn the fundamentals as well as giving you the chance to specialise in your chosen field.
The programme also includes studying Maths and English towards GCSE grade A-C if you do not already have these grades.

You will also complete additional specialist units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:
- Exploring musical composition
- Exploring computer systems used by musicians
- Producing a music recording
- Working as a musical ensemble
In order to qualify for this course, you will need:
- 4 GCSEs at grade D-G including English
- Relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit or above and be working towards GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C
Entry to all courses are subject to a successful interview, a satisfactory reference from your school or employer and evidence that you will be a committed student .

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.
