Course description

WHY ENGLISH LITERATURE?

The opportunities for students of English Literature are wide ranging. An A Level course in English Literature complement other Sixth Form courses and are designed to encourage wider reading and advanced, detailed research within a whole field of literary studies.

Course content

COURSE DETAILS

You will study two units as follows:

Component 1 - Drama and Poetry Pre- 1990 - Shakespeare, drama and poetry pre-1900 (2 hours 30 minutes exam - 40%).

Component 2 - Comparative and Contextual Study - American literature 1880-1940, The Gothic, Dystopia, Women In Literature, the Immigrant Experience (2 hours 30 minutes exam - 40%).

Component 3 - Literature Post 1900 (3000 word coursework - 20%)

Entry requirements

 SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must achieve a minimum of  4 Grade A* - C plus English Language and Mathematics at grade 4
  • Grade 6 in GCSE English Literature
