English Language A Level at Holgate Academy

Course description

Students who enjoy analysing non-fiction texts as well as fiction. An interest in languages and media studies would also help. 

There are always opportunities to enhance learning by photographing/ recording the world around us as language is literally everywhere. Your own research and writing therefore forms an integral part of lessons.

Course content

Currently, coursework is completed on creating and commenting on a range of different text types such as to entertain and to inform.  You may also be examined on a range of texts both written and spoken. 

Entry requirements

A*-C or above in GCSE English Language. 

Future opportunities

English Language A Level is well-regarded by universities. It is seen as very practical as well as theoretical. Therefore it is useful for any writing career such as marketing, Public Relations work and journalism.
