French AS/A-Level at Shire Oak Academy
Students study French for two years. The syllabus consists of 2 modules per year. These assess four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in the study of topics such as family relationships, the environment, Europe, immigration, politics and history. Pupils are encouraged to visit France for a weeks work experience during Year 12 in order to boost their language skills.
Students must have achieved a grade C or above at GCSE to have a realistic chance of success in A level French.
Occupations where modern language skills are advantageous include teaching,translating, interpreting, the diplomatic service, banking, travel and tourism, broadcasting, journalism and many more.
