Design Technology - Product Design at Island Innovation VI Form Campus

Course description

This is a growth industry, crying out

for new talent. Product design is more

than function fulfilment, it is instinct,

curiosity, enthusiasm and passion.

 

Course content

You will initially opt for a one year AS

level in Product Design and can then

take A2 Product Design in the following

year to obtain the full A level.

You will undertake one design and make

project, choosing a brief that challenges

you and at the same time is achievable.

Explore and experiment to find the

most suitable materials, construction

techniques and styles to suit the

product. Plan to keep within budget

and time limits. Develop sketches and

visuals of possible design solutions. After

designing you will model using CAD and

CAM to develop and produce detailed

technical drawings. Finally, create a

prototype and test the final solution.

Entry requirements

Students need 5 GCSEs A-C grade,

including a BTEC or GCSE Design,

Technology, Engineering or creative

subject. Students will also benefit

from a strong design/art folder.

Future opportunities

This course will help to prepare you

for a vast range of highly creative

jobs in design and also more technical

and skilled jobs in production and

manufacture.
