Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport at Ashton Sixth Form College

Course description

On this course you will examine and discuss the issues that affect personal sports performance. You will cover topics that link closely to specific employment areas. You will learn about fitness testing programmes and the nutritional value of diet and performance.

Course content

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology

You will develop an understanding of the body systems and how they work during exercise

Physiology of Fitness

Looks at long and short term effects of exercise on the body systems

Sport Coaching

You will be required to deliver a coaching session on the sport of your choice

Sports Psychology

Develop your understanding of the mind-set of an athlete

Fitness Training and Testing

These two units look at different training methods and the principles of fitness. You will complete a number of fitness tests and be required to undertake a training programme

Practical Team and Individual Sport

You will take part in a number of sports such as netball, badminton, and ultimate frisbee

Entry requirements

Minimum 4 Grade Cs at GCSE or Equivalent

Grade D — GCSE English Language or Maths
