Sociology at Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy
Sociology is a well established A level subject, it is rarely taught in lower school, therefore no prior knowledge is assumed and the subject is taught from scratch. It appeals to students who are interested in people and who enjoy the challenge of studying a new subject.
Have you ever wondered why people behave differently in various areas of the world? Is the family the warmest and safest place for a person to be or the most dangerous? Why do some people succeed at school and others struggle to do well?
In other words, are you interested in people and the variety of experience? If so, Sociology will appeal to you.
Sociology is a challenging subject which studies how people contribute to the wider society and how that society shapes them. We look at a range of studies and theories, many of which are in opposition to each other and we try to develop through guidance and practice the essential skills of understanding, analysing and assessing. We also look at ways of obtaining information about people in everyday situations.
