Sociology A level at Wren Academy

Course description

Sociology is a well-respected A Level, ideal for students who are interested and inquisitive about the world around them and keen to debate and investigate new ideas. Sociology complements both traditional science and humanities A Levels, broadening ideas and themes under the umbrella of the social sciences, alongside modelling wider key skills such as essay writing, debating and independent research. Sociology therefore provides an excellent basis and extension for subjects such as History, Biology, Geography and Psychology.

Paper 1: Education with theory and methods: Education in the UK, sociology method and theory

Paper 2: Culture and Identity and Beliefs in Society

Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with theory and methods: crime and deviance in the uk, sociology method and theory

Entry requirements

B in a Humanities GCSE.

Assessment

100% examination at the end of Year 13.

Future opportunities

Completing A-level sociology shows you are a person who can rationally debate, understand different demographics and their individual needs, look at arguments with an empathetic but level-headed view and with great social knowledge. You will be a strong candidate for jobs in advertising, media, journalism, careers guidance, counselling and teaching amongst others. A-level sociology can lead you to university degree courses in sociology, politics, ethics, philosophy, advertising, journalism amongst others.
