Course description

With its constantly evolving technologies, the IT industry provides a stimulating and challenging working environment in which people capable of adapting quickly will thrive. Edexcel’s BTEC Level 2 First Certifi cate in IT is designed to introduce learners to working in the sector or prepare them for further study or employment in the IT industry. Assessment % breakdown All units are internally assessed through your portfolio, assignments and presentations. There are no examinations for this course. On completion of the three units you will be awarded Pass (equivalent to CC), Merit (equivalent to BB), Distinction (equivalent to AA), or Distinction *(equivalent to A*A*). Description of course There is one core unit plus two specialist units. Depending on the locally available programme of study, the course is structured to permit you to develop your existing interests as well as giving you a broad foundation and introducing you to new areas in the ICT industry, such as Working in the IT industry, Communicating in the IT industryor Supporting Organisations with IT. Year 10 Unit One 1(Core Unit – assessed through coursework and presentations) – you will learn: 1 Know the personal attributes that are valued by employers in the ICT industry 2 Know the common job roles undertaken by people working in the ICT industry Year 11 Unit Two – (Assessed through coursework and presentations) you will learn: 1 Be able to communicate with technical and non-technical people 2 Be able to use IT to communicate effectively Unit Five – (Core Unit – assessed through coursework and presentations) You will learn: 1 Understand how to prepare for project planning 2 Be able to create a project plan 3 Be able to execute a project within identifi ed resources and timescale 4 Be able to test and review a project to ensure it meets its goals Events / trips / residential information You will participate in various business trips to both large multi nationals and smaller local businesses.
