French at Carlton le Willows Academy

Course description

French and German at AS are a mixture of language-based activities and current affairs. The units are:

 Media: TV, advertising and communication technology.

 Popular Culture: cinema, music and fashion/trends.

 Healthy Living/Lifestyle: sport/exercise, health and well-being and holidays.

 Family/relationships; relationships within the family, friendships and marriage/relationships.

You will study these topics in more depth than at GCSE and our students have found that the content of the course has helped them with other subjects they study, as it improves their general knowledge.

At A2, your language is developed through two more units; the topics you will study are:

 Environment: pollution, energy and protecting the planet.

 The multi-cultural society: immigration, integration and racism.

 Contemporary Social Issues: wealth and poverty, law and order and the impact of scientific and technological progress

 Two cultural topics enabling you to learn more about the culture of France/Germany which could include:

a period of 20th century history from a French/German language-speaking country/community

an author, director, architect, musician or painter from a German or French speaking country/community.
