Biology at St Martin's School Brentwood

Course description

Unit 1 will be split into two sections, taught separately by different teachers. Many concepts met at GCSE are revisited and developed. The emphasis at this stage will be on the cellular level with cell structure, function and exchange being the basis of this unit.

Practical skills will be taught in class experimental work and will be assessed through a number of different practical experiments throughout the AS course.

Unit 2 will again split into 2 equal sections and will be taught separately. This term is based on Biology related to the organism. We will look specifically at Biological Molecules and Enzymes, Food and Health before moving onto Biodiversity and Evolution.

Entry requirements

Biology B and an average of 5.7 points including Maths C

or

Biology A and Chemistry B plus an average of 5.5 points including Maths C

or

Double Award Combined Science BB plus an average 5.7 points including Maths B

Also preferred: Chemistry B, Maths B,
