Mathematics AS/A2 at Honiton Community College
Students study two modules of Core Mathematics at AS Level and a further two Core units for A2. Also, one Applications unit must be completed for AS and another for A2 Award. Core Mathematics is an extension to the higher level Mathematics studied at GCSE, together with new ideas such as calculus. The Applications unit studied in Year 12 is generally Decision Mathematics. This involves solving problems using networks and algorithms (methods) of the sort encountered in industry and business. The Applications unit studied in Year 13 is usually Mechanics, although there is some flexibility
5 GCSE passes (grade C, or above) Realistically, you need to be at least s strong grade B candidate at GCSE to consider starting the Mathematics AS course.
