Law & Legal Work BTEC Level 2 Certificate at Biddenham Upper School and Sports College

Course description

This course provides a basic understanding of the English Legal System and the relevant skills for progression to Applied Law at level 3, A Level Law or employment in the legal sector. It provides grounding in civil and criminal law, focussing on legal personnel, courts and processes. It encourages candidates to develop the skills of problem solving, interpreting legal material, analysis, evaluation and extended writing. The specification is relevant to the everyday life through the study of substantive areas of law, rights and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

To study Law and Legal Work you will need the level 2 course entry requirements. Previous knowledge of law is not necessary though you should try to keep informed of legal matters through news, current affairs and documentaries.


There are three units of study as follows:

  • The English Legal System
  • Police and their Powers
  • Aspects of Family Law and Practice

Each unit will be assessed and graded by means of a portfolio piece of work.

Financial information

We may visit the local and central London law courts, the Houses of Parliament and attend conferences which may incur travel costs.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to progress onto Level 3 Applied Law or employment.
