A Level: Mathematics at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre
Mathematics is a challenging course, which covers both pure and applied skills and knowledge. The course covers topics in the areas of Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics, in which students will use and apply advanced mathematical techniques, learn to reason, interpret and communicate ideas mathematically, and also develop skills in solving increasingly complex problems within mathematics and in other contexts.
In a swiftly developing and fast-paced world, the onus is on using existing technologies to help in interpreting it. Because of this the new A level course puts even more emphasis on the use of IT and software to help solve problems. You will develop analytical skills and logic, and add in some creativity, giving you a set of skills which make you a strong candidate for almost any job.
Consider Maths if:
- You are methodical and logical.
- You are fascinated by patterns in numbers and by the ways in which the world can be interpreted mathematically.
- You want to be able to quantify scientific or economic principles.
JC6 general entry requireements including:
- Preferably grade 7 or above at GCSE Mathematics. Applications will be considered with grade 6.
End of year examinations.
Maths is a logical choice for students studying science, but it combines well with any combination of sixth form subjects to give you valuable and sought after skills.
It is a must for Mathematics degrees and required for many science, technology, computing or engineering courses. A 'facilitating' subject, Maths is a valuable qualification for any future career or degree pathway.
