English Language AS and A Level at Tapton School
This course introduces students to the systematic study of how language is used: topics such as how children acquire language, how language has changed through time, how it reflects society, and how it can vary according to class, age, gender and location of the user. The course provides opportunities to translate theory into practice through personal research into an area of language use, editorial writing and original writing.
A GCSE 5 in English Language and a 5 in English Literature.
Completion of AS to grade D or above is needed to progress to the A Level.
At AS Level: Students will be assessed by two written examinations, each worht 50% of the final AS grade. Each examination lasts for 1.5 hours.
At A Level: Students will be assessed by two written examinations, each worth 40% of the final A Level grade and an Investigation worth 20%.
Degree in English as well as links with a range of subjects in Higher Education, both academic and vocational; a wide range of options available with or without a degrees: Law, Accountancy, Marketing, Personnel/Human Resources, Media, Banking, Local Government, Civil Service, Charities, Insurance, Retailing, The Arts - and Teaching.
