Economics A Level at Verulam School

Course description

The AS Level course introduces students to the basic Economic problem, microeconomics and macroeconomic concepts. Students will investigate how markets work and why they fail, as well as how the UK economy functions and the role of the Government.

At A Level this course builds upon the above and in addition looks at the distribution of income and wealth, business economics, labour markets, globalization, the EU, financial markets and government policy.

Economics provides a valuable training in itself and is useful for a wide range of careers, e.g. Banking, Accountancy, Law, Journalism, Media, Business Management and Consultancy. Those considering higher education courses in Economics, Business, Sociology or Politics will find Economics a sound basis from which to start. Many University Mathematics courses include Economics.

Entry requirements

B at GCSE in Economics or B in GCSE Maths and English Language.
