English GCSE at Warlingham School

Course description

English The course aims to extend students through a study of different materials from those encountered in Year 11. Through discussion and analysis of some literary texts and non fiction materials, the students will be encouraged to develop a more mature style of writing as well as improving their skills and techniques. Units of work will be continuously assessed and will cover a range of tasks for different purposes and audiences. Assessment Format 40% coursework (20% written, 20% oral) 60% final examination Possible Careers and Further Education Leading to Employment, ‘A’ level Courses and GNVQ courses.

Entry requirements

GCSE English Grade D or below

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in English or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to English such as a Teacher, Journalist or Editor. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
