French AS/A2 Level at The Bishops' Blue Coat CofE High School

Course description

To improve communication skills, the understanding of grammar and to develop linguistic ability. The course aids appreciation of other cultures and broadens horizons.

Course content

Leisure and Lifestyles - including travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy living. The Individual and Society - including relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture, education, training and future careers.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have achieved a grade B or above at GCSE, thus demonstrating higher level skills.

Assessment

Unit 1 40% (12-15 minutes) Oral

Unit 2 60% (2½ hours) Listening Reading & Writing

Future opportunities

Modern foreign language skills are becoming increasingly sought after by employers, especially given our membership of the EU. Language skills open the door to many careers in commercial areas, and candidates possessing a qualification at this level, or beyond, are regarded as highly marketable by industry.

The majority of students have continued their study of a foreign language at university, including several at Oxford and Cambridge. Many combine their language studies with, Business Studies, Marketing, Maths or Computing.
