*Art and Design GCSE (One Year) at The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

Course content

One year course specialising in fine art and three dimensional studies.

The GCSE Art and Design course requires pupils to build on the skills acquired at Key Stage 3 and encourages creativity in a wide range of media. Although the main emphasis is upon fine art, 3D relief and sculptural work, it is essential that pupils develop their drawing and recording skills in order to fully meet the assessment criteria.

EXAMINATION 40% Ten hour set test
DEADLINES No specific deadlines other than the completion and presentation of coursework by Easter.

Homework will be set as required, depending upon the nature of the work in progress; it is often preferable to set it on an individual rather than a class basis. Successful completion of coursework units may require pupils to spend additional time in the art studio. Such time is available most lunch times and after school. Pupils will be encouraged to maintain a sketch book/ideas folder throughout the course.
